Nevertheless, on the heels of the 40th anniversary of Dr. King’s death, and pundits of all colors and at polar opposites arguing over how much progress has been made. Then, almost as if sneaking in the back door we have either a woman, or a Black man as the next president. Not as a joke, a skit or a “would you believe” question posed at a barbershop. But it is happening and we are here. Suffice to say, we are not “there” yet, but has our country finally gotten to a place where race and color are secondary to the economic realities that we all face. Whether the next president is Black or White has no impact on the education of our children, the security of our homes or the stability of our finances. Whether by concession, or a realization that the old way wasn’t working, our nation has put race aside for what is in the best interest of ourselves, our country and our world. Yes, buckle up, it’s going to be a bumpy ride for the next month or so, but the road should be a heckuvva lot smoother than the past eight years. Yes, the good news is here, with more on it’s way. And with that, we must say thanks to Dr. King and the millions of like minded Good News folks for giving us a kickstart that continues to keep our collective motor running for the past 50 years and many, many more to come. |
