It's the end of 2011 and time for an endless supply of "Best of" lists. And apparently, iamgoodnews.com, we're no different. But that's a good thing! Thus, drum roll please..., Here is the BEST Good News story of 2011! There were tons to choose from across the nation, and many within my own home, but for some reason the one we chose stood out. The video below clearly explains why this is such a uniquely good news story.
Curtis Jackson is a man who, on paper and by the standards of many, has nothing to give. He's homeless. Has been for years. He panhandles on the streets of Chicago, and for many is likely either invisible, or when viewed, seen as an annoyance or harsh reminder of what's not yet right with our world. Yet, here's a man with "nothing" to give who gives more than most would ever choose. We don't know his backstory, or how he ended up homeless. But one thing we do know is what he's doing today. For no other reason except that it's is the right thing to do. His is a story of the intentional nature of seemingly random acts of kindness that can occur from anyone at any time. And it serves as a stunning reminder of who we all are deep down, and ideally can become.
I mean, ask yourself, what you can give. Not so much in the form of coins or donations, but what can you give to others. Whether on the street, your church, synagogue or mosque, or in your own home, what can you afford to give that can change the life of someone. More time? More laughter? More signs of appreciation and support?
True, if you're reading this then chances are good that you're at a different place in your life than Curtis Jackson. But your impact can be just as profound, maybe even moreso.. Yes, the story of Curtis Jackson is the Good News story of 2011. The story of a man with nothing to give, who gives more than any of us ever have, but inspires us to new heights.
Thus, as 2011 draws to a close, let's use his story as a positive challenge to give more within your home, to your children and to your community. And in doing so you'll add to the growing number of good news stories that will make their presence known in the great year that lies ahead.
Thanks 2011 and here's to an amazing 2012 full of GOOD NEWS!
